St John’s Church of England Aided Primary school has a strong Christian foundation. Parents who wish their children to attend should be willing to support the Christian nature of the school.
Pupils are admitted to the reception class in the September following their fourth birthday. Names may be registered with us at any time from birth and application must be made on the official form to the Headteacher.
The maximum number to be admitted this year is 30. Up to the intake limit all applications will be accepted. If the school is over subscribed the following admissions criteria have been adopted by the Governing Body to help in the selection of pupils.
1. Looked After Children (children in local authority care)
2. Whether the parents regularly and frequently worship at an Anglican Church and for how long.
3. Whether the parents worship at another Christian Church.
4. Whether the parents although worshipping in another faith wish their child to attend
a Christian school because of its religious emphasis.
5. Whether or not the applicant has any brothers or sisters already in school.
6. Where the applicant lives in relation to the school and to other schools he or she
could possibly attend.
-Proximity to the school will be measured according to the shortest safe and practical route.
-Siblings – children living at the same address, including step-brothers and sisters.
-Children living at more than one address, the address of the parent to whom child benefit is paid will be used.
The Governors have the right to refuse admission of any child to the school where they are satisfied that such an admission would adversely affect an efficient education or efficient use of resources.
Appeals Procedure
Any parent whose child is not admitted to the school has the right to appeal against the decision. Appeals will be heard by the Diocesan Appeals Committee and an appeal must be lodged within fifteen days from the date of the letter refusing admission. The letter should be addressed to:
The Secretary, Church of England Appeals Panel
Bury Metro Education Service, Athenaeum House
Market Street, Bury, BL9 0BN
Application can be made for half-day places in the Nursery, in the September following the child’s third birthday. Each application will be considered against the following criteria:
a) One parent families.
b) Delayed language and social development.
c) Family difficulties, e.g. handicapped or chronically sick members.
d) Lack of amenities in the home and neighbourhood.
e) Low income and size of family.
Please remember that a place in our Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in the school, the admission arrangements still apply.
